Gleiss Lutz advises Schaeffler on acquisition of Melior Motion

​A team of Gleiss Lutz lawyers has advised automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler in connection with the acquisition of Melior Motion GmbH. Schaeffler and the sellers have concluded a purchase agreement and expect to close the transaction in early February 2022. They have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The Schaeffler Group is a leading global automotive and industrial supplier. In addition to high-precision components and systems for powertrains and chassis, it also produces rolling and plain bearing solutions for a large number of industrial applications. In 2020, the Group generated sales of around EUR 12.6 billion. With around 83,900 employees, the Schaeffler Group is one of the world's largest family-owned enterprises.

Melior Motion GmbH and its predecessors have been developing precision gearboxes for robot manufacturers and industrial automation applications for more than 30 years. After several years of development, the company launched an innovative planetary gearbox for industrial robots that offers high precision, outstanding repeat accuracy, and is both extremely low-noise and robust. Hamelin-based Melior Motion generated sales of around EUR 23 million in 2021 with a workforce of more than 100 employees.

The acquisition of Melior Motion is part of the Schaeffler Group's strategy to expand the robotics portfolio in its industrial division.
