Gleiss Lutz advises ara on the sale of LLOYD Shoes

Gleiss Lutz has advised ara AG on the sale of LLOYD Shoes GmbH to Arklyz AG. Arklyz will acquire LLOYD Shoes GmbH with all of its subsidiaries. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to take place in the first half of 2024.

LLOYD, founded in 1888 and based in Sulingen, is the market leader in premium shoe production in German-speaking countries and the Scandinavian markets. Based on an omnichannel strategy, the company currently sells its collections at around 2,800 points of sale in 48 countries. LLOYD operates 35 concept stores in the most important cities in Germany and in major cities such as Copenhagen, Lima, Vienna and Beijing as well as an international online store and employs over 1,500 people, almost 500 of them in Germany.

ara AG, a company with over 2,700 employees and headquarters in Langenfeld, has been developing, manufacturing and selling shoes all over the world for over 70 years.

LLOYD was owned by ara for 25 years. The aim of the sale to Arklyz is to develop LLOYD into a global footwear and lifestyle brand with high visibility.

Arklyz AG, based in Stans (Switzerland) is a fast-growing powerhouse in the arena of sports, lifestyle, and workwear. Arklyz covers a vertically connected set of activities with a special focus on brand management, distribution, retail, e-commerce, and manufacturing.
