Gleiss Lutz advises Patria on major Bundeswehr contract for 876 wheeled armoured vehicles worth over EUR 2 billion

Gleiss Lutz has advised Finnish defence and technology company Patria on two procurement contracts with the Federal Republic of Germany under the international Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, with a total volume of over EUR 2 billion.

The contracts cover the procurement of up to 876 Patria 6x6 wheeled armoured vehicles in four variants, including configurations with the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system and the Kongsberg RS4 remote weapon station, with a firm order value of over EUR 1 billion plus options.

This is the largest procurement contract in Patria's history.

Patria is a joint venture between Norway’s Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (49.9%) and the State of Finland (50.1%). Through Patria’s 50% stake in the Norwegian-Finnish defence group Nammo AS, these three companies form a leading Nordic defence partnership.

The procurement contributes to the Bundeswehr’s objective of achieving full operational readiness by 2029. The CAVS programme currently includes seven member states—Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Norway—and provides for extensive use of local industrial capabilities.
