The Shell decision

The beginning of a new era in climate change litigation?

In the webinar, hosted jointly with one of our Dutch partner firms, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, De Brauw litigation partner Nicolien van den Biggelaar and our experts Andreas Wehlau, Eric Wagner, Marc Ruttloff and Johannes Hertfelder analysed the risks and consequences for companies following from the widely discussed landmark decision of the District Court of The Hague against Shell. The court had on 26 May of this year ordered international energy group Shell to reduce its global C02 emissions by 45 per cent in 2030, compared to 2019. The joint webinar enabled us to address both the Dutch law and the German law perspectives. A special thank you goes to Nicolien van den Biggelaar, who is representing Shell in the legal action, and provided first-hand insights into the legal and policy background of the decision.
