Björn represents clients in international commercial and investment arbitration (in particular CIETAC, ICC, DIS and ICSID) and in cross-border complex disputes, in particular relating to distribution law, post-M&A disputes, shareholder disputes, business law, and commercial law. As counsel, he has handled a double-digit number of international arbitrations under the rules of various arbitral institutions with parties from various countries - including parties from Japan, China, Korea, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States, and the German-speaking region. Björn is also an active arbitrator. His practice further focuses on the enforcement of arbitral awards, including investor-state arbitral awards, as well as on proceedings for the setting aside of arbitral awards.
Björn studied at the University of Tübingen. He has been with Gleiss Lutz since 2018. In 2015 and 2016, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Lauterpacht Centre of International Law, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), the Young Practitioners Group of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA 40), the Austrian Arbitration Association (ArbAut), Young Arbitrators Forum of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC YAF), the German-American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV) as well as the German-Japanese Association of Jurists (DJJV). Björn was Regional Co-Chair of the DIS40 Stuttgart from 2021 to 2023.
Björn is a lecturer in international economic law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, with a focus on the law of the World Trade Organization, free trade agreements, and international investment protection law.
