Gleiss Lutz advises US medical device manufacturer Greatbatch on billion-dollar deal

Gleiss Lutz has advised Texas-based, medical device manufacturer Greatbatch Inc. on its acquisition of competitor Lake Region Medical from private equity investors Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) and Bain Capital for approx. 1.7 billion US dollars.  

Lake Region Medical operates mainly in the US and Ireland, but also has a strong presence in Germany, where it develops and produces stainless steel products mostly for medical and pharmaceutical applications. It focuses on the manufacture of high-precision stainless steel tubes, tube formed parts and tube components for the entire range of medical device solutions.  

Greatbatch and Lake Region Medical have a joint global workforce of 9,000 employees. The merged company’s turnover is estimated to reach approx. 1,5 billion US dollars upon completion of the transaction.  

Gleiss Lutz advised Greatbatch on the German law aspects of the transaction.
