Whistleblowing in the EU – overview and current framework

The EU Whistleblowing Directive (Directive 2019/1937) aims to provide common minimum standards of protection for whistleblowers across the EU. In the meantime a growing number of EU countries have either implemented national laws to protect whistleblowers (e.g. France, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark) or published draft bills (e.g. Germany, Spain), which still need to be passed.

For multinational companies, it can be a challenge to align the various concepts of whistleblower protection within the EU and to design company policies and processes appropriately.

In cooperation with our colleagues from our European Network we want to discuss the current status of implementing the Whistleblowing Directive with a special focus on France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
