The Herbert Smith, Gleiss Lutz, Stibbe Alliance to establish new role of Secretary General

The Herbert Smith Gleiss Lutz Stibbe Alliance has established a new senior role focussed on orchestrating and supporting the internal co-ordination and business development and marketing initiatives that the three firms undertake.

Current Stibbe Brussels Managing Partner Olivier Clevenbergh will become the first Alliance Secretary General. The unanimous choice among the firms' management teams, he will start his 3-year term on 1st July and report to an Alliance Board composed of the management of the firms.

Olivier will work closely with the heads of practices and the Alliance contact partners in each of the firms. He will remain based in Brussels but will spend time in each of the Alliance firms' main offices.

Michael Arnold, Alliance Contact Partner at Gleiss Lutz commented:

"The creation of this new role reflects the management teams' shared belief that strong internal co-ordination at all levels is an essential condition for the seamless service we need to continue to provide to our clients.

After ten years of working together on client matters, we now have in place a strong platform of trust and confidence on which to grow further our share of top-end work in the international markets. We are convinced that the best opportunities for doing so lie in strengthening our focus on working closely together, both internally and in our initiatives to jointly promote the Alliance. In Olivier we are confident we have the ideal person to bring the good co-operation that exists across the Alliance to a new level."

Olivier has been in his present role since January 2005, a period which has seen Stibbe in Brussels embedding its reputation as one of Belgium's leading firms. He joined the firm as a trainee in 1989, becoming a partner in 2000. Olivier is a corporate and commercial lawyer with a particular current focus on M&A and private equity. Corporate Brussels partner Jan Peeters will take over as Stibbe Brussels Managing Partner when Olivier becomes Secretary General.
