Steffen studied law at the Universities of Giessen and Porto Alegre (Brazil). After the legal clerkship and whilst writing his doctoral thesis he worked as a research assistant for Gleiss Lutz. He has been a lawyer with Gleiss Lutz since 2022.

He is a member of the Association of German-Lusitanian Jurists (DLJV).

Steffen speaks German, English and Portuguese.
