Gleiss Lutz partner Michael Burian becomes new Secretary General of the IPBA

At the end of April, Corporate/M&A partner Dr Michael Burian, co-head of the Asia desk at Gleiss Lutz, took office as Secretary General of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA).

The IPBA, founded in Tokyo in 1991, is an international association of business and commercial lawyers who live in, or otherwise have a strong interest in, the Asia-Pacific Region. Ever since, the IPBA has grown to become the preeminent legal association in this region, with membership drawn from throughout the world, and currently has over 1,300 members from over 65 jurisdictions worldwide. The association aims to connect lawyers from different backgrounds and legal systems and to foster exchange and ties between them.

Michael Burian comments: “It is an honour to be the first Secretary General of the IPBA who is not permanently based in Asia. I am looking forward to this new task and to further develop and professionalize the IPBA as the leading organization of business and commercial lawyers in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Michael Burian succeeds Caroline Berube as Secretary General. Since 2011 he has been a partner at Gleiss Lutz, with a focus on Asia-related cross-border transactions, and regularly advises Asian clients, especially Japanese, Korean and Chinese companies, on German and European law issues. In addition, Michael advises German companies on their business activities in Asia.
