“Orange the World” – Gleiss Lutz takes a stand on violence against women

Gleiss Lutz has again sent a visible signal against violence against women as part of the “Orange the World” campaign. In the evening and night hours of 25 November, the entire Stuttgart office building was lit up in orange. The Frankfurt office also took part, illuminating the conference area on the 16th floor in orange as well.

Orange the World is an initiative by UN Women, the United Nations organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Starting on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women declared by the UN, buildings in numerous cities all over the world were lit up in orange to kick off 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. This year, UN Women Germany is focusing its Orange the World campaign on violence against women and girls in public life – including online.

“We support the campaign’s aims to educate and bring attention to an issue that is often kept from view and not discussed openly. As a law firm, Gleiss Lutz stands for social responsibility, commitment to women’s rights and a society that is free from violence,” said Prof. Michael Arnold, co-managing partner at Gleiss Lutz, of its participation in the campaign.

Dr. Alexander Schwarz, co-managing partner at Gleiss Lutz, stressed the timeliness of this campaign: “According to UN Women Germany, one in every three women in Germany has experienced physical and/or sexual violence at least once in her life. More than half of all women avoid certain places after dark and feel unsafe. That underscores the urgent need for action.”

Orange the World is supported by a variety of organisations including Zonta, a global association of professional women in positions of responsibility dedicated to improving the legal, political, economic and professional situation of women: https://zonta-union.de/
