Renowned antitrust lawyer and Gleiss Lutz name partner Helmuth Lutz dies

Dr. Helmuth Lutz, co-founder and name partner of Gleiss Lutz, passed away on 3 February 2024 at the age of 96.

Helmuth Lutz joined Alfred Gleiss’s firm in 1956, with the firm soon afterwards being renamed Gleiss Lutz Hootz Hirsch & Partner. Dr. Lutz was one of the most renowned experts in German and European antitrust law for many years. He also published numerous works in this field and was instrumental in expanding the firm’s areas of expertise to cover all aspects of business law. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he was a member of the Higher Disciplinary Court for Lawyers (Ehrengerichtshof für Rechtsanwälte) for the State of Baden-Württemberg from 1987 to 1995. He remained a partner in the firm until 31 December 1998.

“His contribution and dedication have had a decisive impact on our firm. His extraordinary willingness to help others and his open-mindedness made him an excellent role model and valuable advisor. We all mourn the loss of our former partner and colleague and our thoughts are with his family,” said Prof. Dr. Michael Arnold, Gleiss Lutz’s senior partner and chairman of the partnership council, in recognition of Dr. Lutz’s importance to the firm.
