Gleiss Lutz receives four honours as law firm of the year

Each year, the editorial staff at the JUVE publishing house honours outstanding law firms for their work. On October 31, 2007 in Frankfurt, Gleiss Lutz received the 2007 JUVE Awards for “Law firm of the year for M&A” and “Law firm of the year for real estate and construction law”. Moreover, Gleiss Lutz is being honoured in the JUVE Handbook on Commercial Law Firms 2007/2008 as “Law firm of the year for real estate law” and as “Law firm of the year for patent law”.

Gleiss Lutz regularly advises in major transactions, especially international ones. Mandates such as the advising of First Choice on its merger with TUI to form one of the world’s largest travel groups or the advising of Basic Element (Oleg Deripaska) on its stake in Hochtief underscore Gleiss Lutz’ position as one of the leading practices for cross-border M&A. In addition, Gleiss Lutz is also a leading practice in public takeovers. Since Blackstone’s takeover of Celanese, Gleiss Lutz has been at the forefront of the market, which was again demonstrated through its advising of Merck on the latter’s public takeover offer to the shareholders of Schering AG. Above all, the JUVE editorial staff praised the breadth of the practice, which is made possible by the numerous successful partners, including younger partners.

Gleiss Lutz’ real estate practice has made a name for itself in the area of transactions, in particular. The focus of the work here is on advising in complex real estate and portfolio deals. The practice also includes advising on the financing of these deals on the sides of the seller, the buyer and the financing banks, too. The impressive portfolio of clients includes, among others, Edinburgh House, which Gleiss Lutz recently advised on the refinancing of its German real estate portfolio, Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank//RREEF.

It was only in July of this year that Gleiss Lutz received the Financial Times Award in the category of “client service”.
