Gleiss Lutz advises Atmel Corporation in the restructuring of its German business

On December 30, 2008, Atmel Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers, announced the sale of its production company in Telefunken-Park in Heilbronn, Germany, to Tejas Silicon Holdings Ltd. Gleiss Lutz advised Atmel Corporation in the entire restructuring of the operative business in Germany and on the sale of the production company.

This transaction is a further step in the transformation plan to enhance Atmel’s competitive position and unlock the value inherent in Atmel for its shareholders, said Steven Laub, Atmel’s CEO, in the company’s press statement.

Atmel is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and radio frequency components. It currently has a total of approximately 7,400 employees. The consolidated turnover in 2007 amounted to around USD 1.6 billion. Atmel’s German chip design and production unit specialises primarily in the manufacture of microchips in communications and the automotive industry.
