2018 JUVE Awards: Gleiss Lutz named Law Firm of the Year for Compliance

At the 2018 JUVE Awards ceremony held at the Frankfurt Opera House on October 25th, Gleiss Lutz was awarded the title of “Law Firm of the Year for Compliance”.

In announcing the award for “Law Firm of the Year for Compliance”, JUVE commented: “Practical and pragmatic is how clients describe Gleiss Lutz’s team. The firm used to be primarily known for expert reports on corporate governance. Today it cleverly makes use of its extensive know-how from its renowned practices such as competition/antitrust and corporate as well as insolvency […]. And with its international network Gleiss Lutz holds all aces when it comes to advising on compliance related matters.”

In the case of infringements, the Compliance & Investigations group’s 35 lawyers conduct internal investigations and advise clients on dealing with supervisory, antitrust and criminal authorities. The team also develops tailored compliance programmes for companies to help them avoid falling foul of the relevant authorities and to minimise the risk of fines. Current practice highlights include advising the supervisory boards of Volkswagen and Audi on the diesel issue, advising ALNO on internal investigations conducted for the insolvency administrator and the review of D&O liability and recourse claims, advising Bilfinger’s executive board on the investigation of compliance cases and extensive strategic, corporate and criminal law advising of Atlas Elektronik in connection with the settlement reached with the Bremen public prosecutor's office.

Dr. Eike Bicker, co-head of Gleiss Lutz’s Compliance & Investigation focus group, commented: “We are thrilled to receive this important honour. It confirms we have a formidable team that successfully advises on challenging and highly complex cases. Our up-and-coming talent contributes heavily to this success.”

Prof. Dr. Michael Arnold, co-managing partner of Gleiss Lutz, was pleased: “This year’s Law Firm of the Year award is a great recognition of the appreciation we receive from clients and in the industry for the work we do. It confirms that we have set ourselves the right goals: to provide highest quality legal advice, close interdisciplinary collaboration across all areas of business law and maintain close personal ties with clients.”

The JUVE Awards are seen as the most important industry award on the German legal market. In selecting the award winners, JUVE bases its decision on surveys of clients, competitors, young legal professionals and judges. Apart from outstanding expertise, criteria included a firm’s strategic focus, client orientation and business prospects.
