Commercial law firm Gleiss Lutz has once again awarded the Alfred Gleiss scholarship. With this scholarship and in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Gleiss Lutz supports highly qualified young lawyers. This year’s recipient is 28 year-old Henrik Humrich.
Each year since 1997, the Alfred Gleiss scholarship has enabled a recipient to enrol in a one-year Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme at a university in the U.S. or Great Britain. The scholarship covers full tuition and thus makes it easier to study at top universities. Criteria for the awarding of the scholarship are legal excellence, the ability to think and act globally and good social skills. True to the beliefs of Professor Dr. Alfred Gleiss, founder of the law firm, the scholarship promotes international exchange between young lawyers and emphasises the significance of Anglo-American law in international legal relations. “Our recipients will benefit professionally from a better understanding of other legal cultures”, says Dr. Ulrich Denzel, associate partner at Gless Lutz responsible for the Alfred Gleiss scholarship.
Henrik Humrich will pursue postgraduate studies at Harvard Law School. He studied law at the universities of Heidelberg and Mainz and passed both the first and second State Examinations as one of the best of his year in Rhineland-Palatinate. Since August 2007, Henrik Humrich has been doing a PhD in Mainz under Professor Dr. Peter O. Mülbert. His thesis is on “The Special Representative in Company Law”. Whilst writing his thesis, he is also enrolled at the Hagen Distance University, studying economics for lawyers. Henrik Humrich wants to use his time at Harvard to expand his knowledge of commercial law, looking in particular at American and international company and capital market law.
