"... capitalising on its strong alliance with Herbert Smith and Stibbe ..."
Chambers Europe 2009
"A strong relationship with Herbert Smith and an elaborate network of 'best friends' fírms enable the team to operate in foreign jurisdictions easily as expertly"

Chambers Europe 2008
"... excellent international alliances with Herbert Smith and Stibbe, which enable the team to handle impressive cross-border mandates"
Chambers Europe 2007

The alliance of Gleiss Lutz with the top law firms Herbert Smith LLP in England and Stibbe in the Netherlands/Belgium has been in existence since the year 2000. With approximately 2,000 lawyers in 20 jurisdictions in Europe, Asia and the U.S., the three law firms cooperate on cross-border matters, with special emphasis in international transactions, in the area of banking and finance, as well as on international arbitration proceedings and litigation.

The cooperation is not just on paper, but is lived every day: a constant exchange of lawyers between the cooperating law firms, regular meetings at practice group levels, the structured transfer of know-how and, not least, daily collegial and trustful cooperation on joint cases guarantee a familiarity of the partners among each other that is unknown to many a merged law firm. At the same time, the cooperation of independent top-notch law firms provides a guarantee that at all times only the best are working together with the best: no compromises in terms of quality or professionalism out of regard for merger structures. Instead the freedom, but also the responsibility, of independent partners who have the common goal of success.

An important addition to our formalised alliance with Herbert Smith and Stibbe is our continued cooperation with the leading U.S. law firms Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York. Gleiss Lutz's special competence in central and eastern Europe is further strengthened by a formalized cooperation with the Hungarian law firm Bán, S. Szabó & Partners.
