Gleiss Lutz has been active in antitrust law for over fifty years: first within the bounds of the decartelisation discussion, then under the regimes of German and EC antitrust law. The firm has been present in Brussels since 1962 and has significantly contributed to shaping European competition law. We combine the experience of the early days of German and EC competition law with enthusiasm for current problems and innovative solutions. We are known as authors of commentaries and other publications that often tread completely new paths. Not infrequently, legislators seek our advice.
At the centre of our work, however, are of course our clients. We advise and represent companies in all situations in which antitrust regulations can be of significance: including merger control, proceedings concerning administrative fines or abusive practices, or strategic consultation regarding new corporate strategies. Our clients value not only our legal expertise, but also our knowledge of the field, which we have accumulated since Gleiss Lutz’s founding and have been passing on to the younger members of our antitrust team.
An important focus of our activity has been the conceptional planning and ensuing execution of merger control procedures in Germany, in the European Union and worldwide – since the very beginning of the firm. We have handled cases that were of central significance for the development of merger control in Germany and in the EU. In recent years our team has become expert in the coordination of merger control procedures under ever more numerous merger control regimes throughout the world.
Moreover, we represent clients in proceedings concerning administrative fines and abusive practices, as well as in antitrust proceedings. In the past few years alone, lawyers from Gleiss Lutz’s competition team have been involved in more than 30 fine proceedings. These included leading cases like the Continental Can verdict of the European Court of Justice.
Efficiency and internationality have the utmost priority at Gleiss Lutz. Working with foreign clients is part of our daily routine. Our international clients appreciate the fact that all members of our competition team have studied or worked in at least one other jurisdiction outside of Germany.
