Gleiss Lutz not only advises with regard to the legal situation, but develops strategies with its clients for the practical problems which they encounter in all areas of individual and collective labour and employment law. It is essential particularly in labour law matters that counsel be more than legally well-founded. In practice when engaging in critical negotiations with works councils or unions, practical know-how, knowledge of the industry and a feel for negotiating situations are just as important as deep understanding of the law.

We advise our clients on issues of labour and employment law in connection with restructurings and reorganisations. Together with them, we implement – when necessary – staff reductions, plant closures and plant relocations, and we help them establish qualification companies.

In negotiations over reconciliations of interest and social plans, our clients can trust our extensive experience. Our expertise is also valued in the conclusion of collective bargaining agreements, in questions of changes to pay scales and in the area of corporate codetermination. Whether introducing modern remuneration systems, implementing anti-discrimination policies, making working-hour models more flexible or (re)organising company pension schemes, we always strive for innovative solutions that fit the needs of the company. Another focus of our activity is the establishment and termination of service relationships with top executives.

An inseparable component of our work is appearing in court. We represent our clients at all levels of court proceedings, in dismissal-protection proceedings of individual employees, in arguments with works councils over the extent of co-determination rights or in disputes over the permissibility of industrial actions by unions.

Gleiss Lutz advises foreign clients in regard to activities in Germany just as we assist our German clients with cross-border problems.
