Problems stemming from state aids and subsidy law are usually complex. As a rule, federal, state, municipal and European regulations mesh with each other. This requires an interdisciplinary approach, for comprehensive advice is possible only in a team. For this reason, specialists from diverse areas of law are available at Gleiss Lutz, who have years of experience in all areas of state aids and subsidy law. Where needed, this team is further strengthened by additional lawyers from Gleiss Lutz or from one of our international partner law firms.

Companies negotiate as applicants with the authorities over various subsidies programmes. Gleiss Lutz advises them in the process and provides them with comprehensive support in regard to developing a subsidy model geared to the concrete plan and in regard to its legal configuration.

If a company is subject to claims for the return of funds, we represent it before the administrative authorities and courts. If a company feels disadvantaged by the subsidisation of a competitor, we support it in competitor lawsuits before national courts and in complaints before national authorities and the European Commission.

International anti-subsidy law too is becoming ever more important. We accompany our clients in proceedings before the European Commission, for example when the company is damaged by subsidised imports from non-EU states.
