Gleiss Lutz advises and represents domestic and foreign clients in international and German arbitration proceedings. The focus of our practice is in the areas of M&A, joint ventures, corporate law, IT projects, protection of intellectual property, construction and civil engineering and general commercial law. We also have special expertise in investment arbitration, i.e. advising and representing clients in disputes between foreign investors and the host states of the investments.

When contracts are negotiated, our goal is to enforce an arbitration agreement that fits the interests of our client. If disputes arise, we develop a comprehensive strategy together with the client, taking into account the risks of an arbitration proceeding and possible alternatives. We clarify the facts of the case, prepare a detailed risk and cost analysis, work out solutions that optimally take account of our client’s interests, and run through various dispute and dispute settlement scenarios with the client.

We also coordinate and advise on any related or parallel proceedings. Gleiss Lutz lawyers always operate with the knowledge that an arbitration proceeding is not an end in itself, but a means to the attainment of an economic goal.

We represent parties and serve as party-appointed arbitrators or as chairs of arbitral tribunals. We also advise on recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, as well as actions to set aside arbitral awards. When called for, we can access our network of foreign partner law firms.
